Well, sort of.
Venus Williams won her 44th WTA title just a few days ago in Luxembourg – a mere 32 months after winning her 43rd title.
Marija at Women’s Tennis Blog relates the details of the match and how important and impressive the comeback has been for Venus much better than I could hope to. The question that remains on my mind though is, does this mean Venus is close to being truly back?
Not to take away from her win in Luxembourg – no WTA title comes easily – but it cannot be considered a “major” tournament and when you look at the list of names she beat to win that is evident. Still, everyone has to start somewhere and could it be that this win will send a message to the other women on the tour that they’ll now have two Williams to deal with again?
At this point, we can only hope.
Now, raise your hands if an all Williams final at the Australian Open sounds like a fantastic way to start the next tennis season 🙂
